IBAU Participates in Media Editors’ Engagement Aimed at Bridging the Knowledge Gap for Better Media Reporting
On 18th June 2026, the Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU) participated in the Media Editors’ Engagement hosted by the Insurance Regulatory Authority at Brovad Hotel Masaka under the theme: “Bridging the Knowledge Gap for Better Media Reporting.”
The engagement brought together media professionals from Masaka subregion and insurance industry stakeholders to deepen understanding of the sector and strengthen collaboration in promoting accurate, informed, and responsible reporting.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Sande Protazio, Acting CEO and Director of Strategy and Market Development at IRA, emphasized the critical role of the media in informing, educating, and empowering the public. He noted that the media remains a key driver in shaping public understanding, and that clear, accurate communication is essential in enabling citizens to make informed decisions, particularly on issues that directly impact their lives and livelihoods.
During the engagement, our Business Manager, Christopher Bakesiga, delivered an insightful presentation on Understanding the Insurance Cycle, from underwriting to claims, and highlighted the critical role of insurance brokers within the industry value chain.
He explained the insurance process in simple and practical terms, demonstrating how brokers support clients at every stage of the insurance journey. From identifying and assessing risks, guiding clients in selecting appropriate insurance covers, and facilitating engagement with insurers during policy placement, to assisting clients during claims notification and settlement, brokers play a central role in ensuring a smooth and seamless experience for policyholders.
He further emphasized that insurance brokers act in the best interest of their clients at no additional cost, ensuring access to independent advice, professional guidance, and suitable insurance solutions without additional brokerage charges.
Overall, the engagement provided a valuable platform for dialogue between the media and insurance stakeholders, reinforcing the importance of accurate reporting and enhanced public awareness in strengthening trust, transparency, and understanding within the insurance sector.
