IBAU- CASE MEDINSURANCE BREAKFAST MEETING

IBAU–CASE Medinsurance Breakfast Meeting

On 18th March, the Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU) hosted a CEO Brokers Breakfast Meeting in partnership with CASE Medinsurance, aimed at strengthening collaboration and improving healthcare insurance delivery in Uganda.

The meeting provided a platform for open dialogue between brokers and CASE Medical Insurance leadership, with a focus on enhancing partnerships, improving awareness of medical insurance solutions, and addressing existing gaps in market engagement.

Speaking at the engagement, Ronald Akankwasa, Chief Operating Officer of CASE Medical Insurance, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to deepening relationships with brokers as key distribution partners in the insurance value chain. He noted that while CASE Medical Insurance has operated in Uganda for over 20 years, awareness of its full service offering among brokers remains relatively low, presenting an opportunity for stronger industry collaboration.

Akankwasa highlighted that out of approximately 56 brokerage firms in the market, the company currently engages closely with only a limited number, underscoring the need for broader and more inclusive partnerships across the sector.

He also addressed a common misconception that CASE Medinsurance limits clients to CASE Hospital and its clinics. He clarified that the insurer has an extensive network of over 360 healthcare service providers across Uganda, with additional coverage extending throughout the East African region. This wide network ensures clients have flexible and accessible healthcare options beyond a single facility.

On market dynamics, Akankwasa observed that the medical insurance sector is largely driven by corporate schemes, which account for approximately 94–96% of business. In response, CASE Medical Insurance continues to design tailored insurance solutions through its actuarial and underwriting teams, ensuring products are aligned to client needs, budgets, and expectations.

He further highlighted the company’s growth trajectory, noting that gross written premiums increased from UGX 6.7 billion in 2020 to UGX 30 billion in 2021, reflecting growing market confidence and the insurer’s capacity to manage large and complex schemes.

Brokers were also reassured of CASE Medinsurance’s continued support through a dedicated broker desk, competitive commissions, and flexible product offerings designed to enhance value for clients and strengthen distribution partnerships.

Such engagements play a critical role in strengthening the insurance industry by fostering trust, improving communication between insurers and brokers, and addressing market misconceptions. They also provide a platform for knowledge sharing, feedback, and collaboration, ultimately contributing to improved service delivery, deeper market penetration, and a more resilient and responsive healthcare insurance ecosystem in Uganda.
