IBAU Successfully Hosts Insightful CEO Breakfast Meeting Sponsored by Mirai General Insurance.
The Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU) successfully hosted another CEO Breakfast Meeting at Four Points by Sheraton Kampala, proudly sponsored by Mirai General Insurance.
The event featured Paul Rumanda Rugambwa, President of the Human Resource Managers’ Association of Uganda (HRMAU), as the guest speaker and brought together CEOs from IBAU member brokerage firms, and representatives from Mirai General Insurance for a timely discussion on the evolving workplace and the strategic role of human capital in business success.
Delivering his keynote address on the theme, “Human Resource Trends: What is Keeping Business Leaders Awake?”, Paul challenged business leaders to rethink workforce strategy in the face of rapid technological advancement, legal reforms, economic transformation, and changing labour market dynamics.
While artificial intelligence (AI) continues to reshape the workplace, he emphasized that the real challenge facing organisations is not a shortage of people, but a shortage of the right skills.
He urged CEOs to adopt AI strategically by first identifying the business challenges they intend to solve, rather than investing in technology without a clear purpose. He further stressed the importance of continuously reviewing workforce strategies to ensure organisations remain agile and competitive in an ever-changing business environment.
A significant part of the discussion focused on Uganda’s amended Employment Act and its implications for employers. Paul encouraged organisations to urgently review their employment contracts, HR policies, disciplinary procedures, and compliance frameworks to align with the new legal requirements. He noted that these changes have far-reaching implications for workforce planning, employment costs, restructuring, and organisational risk management.
The session also explored broader trends shaping the future of work, including the widening skills gap, the impact of AI, the rising cost of living, shifts in development funding, and the opportunities and talent demands expected from Uganda’s emerging oil and gas sector.
One of the most memorable messages from the presentation was:
“People decisions are business decisions.”
He encouraged CEOs to empower their HR leaders by giving them a seat at the executive table and involving them in strategic decision-making. According to Paul, HR is no longer simply an administrative function but a strategic partner in organisational growth, transformation, and resilience.
Also addressing participants, Joseph Nsubuga, Chief Executive Officer of Mirai General Insurance, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering exceptional service and strengthening partnerships with insurance brokers.
He highlighted Mirai’s capabilities across a wide range of sectors, including marine, oil and gas, and other specialised commercial risks, supported by its international partnership with WTW (Willis Towers Watson). He also outlined the company’s continued investments in digital transformation, product innovation, efficient claims handling, and dedicated broker support.
Speaking on the importance of collaboration, Joseph remarked: “At Mirai, the customer is the centre of our universe. Partnering with IBAU allows us to combine world-class brokerage with Service Beyond Expectation.”
IBAU extends its sincere appreciation to Paul Rumanda Rugambwa for sharing his invaluable insights and practical perspectives, and to Mirai General Insurance for sponsoring this edition of the CEO Breakfast Meeting and for its continued partnership in advancing thought leadership within Uganda’s insurance industry.
As IBAU continues to champion excellence in insurance brokerage, the CEO Breakfast Meeting remains a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and strategic dialogue among industry leaders, fostering conversations that strengthen both the profession and Uganda’s insurance industry as a whole.
