IBAU Successfully Hosts the CEO Breakfast Meeting sponsored by AAR General Insurance.
The Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU), in partnership with AAR General Insurance, successfully hosted its CEO Breakfast Meeting on 18 September 2026 at Four Points by Sheraton Kampala, bringing together insurance brokers and AAR team for a morning of learning, engagement and collaboration.
The meeting focused on “AI for Business Growth”, with Dr. Lawrence Muganga, Vice Chancellor of Victoria University, as the guest speaker.
Rethinking AI as a Business Opportunity
Dr. Muganga challenged business leaders to look beyond AI as simply a technology and consider how it can be applied to improve efficiency, rethink processes and create new opportunities for growth.
He explained AI through three core concepts — data, patterns and prediction — and encouraged businesses to consider how these capabilities can be applied to everyday operations.
For the insurance brokerage sector, the discussion explored practical applications of AI, including analysing policy documents and reports, automating repetitive processes, simplifying complex information and supporting more efficient customer engagement.
A key message from the session was the importance of using AI to augment human capability rather than viewing it only as a threat to existing roles. Dr. Muganga encouraged businesses to identify repetitive processes that can be automated while allowing people to focus on areas requiring judgement, relationships and expertise.
The conversation encouraged insurance brokers and business leaders to begin thinking practically about how AI can be integrated into their organisations to support smarter and more efficient ways of working.
AAR Begins a New Chapter Beyond Health
The breakfast meeting also provided a platform for AAR General Insurance to share its strategic direction as it expands beyond its longstanding healthcare heritage into broader general insurance.
Christine Nassuna, CEO of AAR, explained that AAR is taking its experience in underwriting, claims management, customer service and risk management into a wider range of insurance solutions, including motor, property, travel, fire, liability and personal accident insurance.
She emphasised that AAR views insurance brokers as more than a distribution channel.
“We see brokers not simply as a distribution channel. We see you as our strategic partners.”
Christine called on brokers to bring opportunities, provide honest feedback, challenge AAR when it falls short, give the company an opportunity to compete and collaborate on innovative solutions that respond to customer needs.

IBAU Board Marks Its First 100 Days
In her remarks, IBAU Chairperson Ritah Mutesi reflected on the first 100 days of the new IBAU Board and the progress made so far, while outlining priorities for the next 100 days.
She highlighted the implementation of the monthly CEO Breakfast Meetings, with the September engagement marking the third edition, as well as IBAU’s continued regional engagement.
The Board’s priorities for the next 100 days include completing the members’ welfare scheme, advancing plans for the IBAU home, pursuing financing opportunities, strengthening Secretariat capacity, and progressing the Association’s PR and CSR initiatives.
She also shared an update on preparations for the 2027 IBAU Annual Brokers’ Conference in Jinja, encouraging members to save the date (14th – 16th April 2027).
The Chairperson called on members to actively participate in building the Association by supporting initiatives, responding to opportunities to get involved and contributing ideas that can help move IBAU forward.
Building Through Engagement
The CEO Breakfast Meeting reinforced IBAU’s commitment to creating platforms where members can learn from industry and business leaders, engage with partners and explore emerging opportunities affecting the insurance sector.
As IBAU continues its monthly CEO Breakfast Meetings, the Association remains focused on strengthening relationships, building capacity and creating greater value for its members and the wider insurance industry.
